Creating linear scans of slides and negatives with Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan

 Minolta's scanner software DiMAGE Scan makes creating linear scans particularly easy. All required settings for this are located in the Preferences window which is obtained by pressing the button with an arrow on top of a list at the upper right of the above control console.

Required Settings

 To prepare the software for creating linear scans you have to activate "Auto Exposure for Slides", choose a color depth of "16bit linear" and deactivate the option "Color Matching ON". The remaining settings can be set according to your preference. Multi sampling can be used to maximize the scan's quality. For negatives this is often beneficial as the detail of the brighter areas in the resulting positive image is stored in the densest areas of the negative which can be prone to noise in a single sample scan.
After closing the Preferences window be sure to select the mode for color slide film regardless of wether you are scanning slides or negatives. The settings for the scan like the desired resolution can be chosen according to your preference. Selecting the maximum physical resolution your scanner is capable of makes most sense as you can always downsample the image later on. The removal of dust and scratches by means of digital ICE is permissible but GEM should be avoided.
